SLAUGHTER DOWN UNDER: THE GREAT AUSTRALIAN UNCONSCIOUSAustralia has the worst record of mammal extinction in the world. Apart from small, dedicated groups of animal activists and wildlife carers, the Australian public rarely protests the kangaroo killing industry, which sees 3.6 million animals killed a year. The latest micro-example of Australia's apathy is the decision to kill up to 500 kangaroos trapped on an old naval base in Canberra, Australia's vaunted 'bush capital.' Alll the animals in these photographs are now dead. The only positive is that photographers gained access to the base and are showing the world the reality of scientifically approved animal destruction. a photographic record: condemned kangaroos other kangaroo imagesNEW: a new perspective: a pro-animal philosophy for the 21st Century |

Hundreds of kangaroos at the Belconnen Naval Transmission station, Canberra, Australia, have been slaughtered. Protests - both in Australia and overseas -- caused a suspension of the action - until May 19, 2008. In this photograph, the fences, covered in hessian, through which the animals are to be herded to a killing yard, can be seen.Latest news about the slaughter: http://www.kangaroolives.com |
